No, this is not about building castles in the air. Morocco is making giant strides in various fields through numerous structuring projects. Within five years, many of them will have come to fruition. A mix of about thirty dispatches that could be published in 2030.
Tangier : Inauguration of the first tram line
A new era for urban transport in Tangier. After Casablanca and Rabat, the city of the strait launched, on April 20, 2030, its first tram line. This new line, spanning 30 km, crosses 25 stations spread over several popular and industrial neighborhoods such as Moghogha, Béni Makada, and Gueznaya.
It required a financing of 6 billion dirhams (MDH), of which 65% was provided by France and the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the form of a loan, for the purchase, by SDL Tanja Mobility, of 70 trainsets from Alstom.
The remaining 35% came from Moroccan public funds, notably the Deposit and Management Fund (CDG) and the Mohammed VI Investment Fund. Approved in 2016 by the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, this project was put on hold before being relaunched at the end of 2025. These Wifi-connected trams will help streamline traffic in the northern city, in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup which will begin in two months.
Mohammed V Airport : Welcoming the 25 millionth passenger
Less than a year after its completion, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca welcomed, on March 4, 2030, its 25 millionth passenger. And as expected, the ceremony did not lack festivity, as the National Airports Office had arranged a festive welcome for this tourist who disembarked from a Royal Air Maroc plane.
With bouquets of flowers in hand, the hostesses were all smiles alongside ONDA and the national airline officials, surrounded by government representatives, notably from the Tourism and Transport departments, and local authorities.
This large-scale project, whose earthworks started in July 2025, changed the configuration of the Kingdom’s primary airport platform. This new infrastructure, which cost about 15 billion dirhams, is indeed ready to welcome up to 35 million passengers, as announced at the launch of the national strategy “Airports 2030.”
Nador West Med : Running at full capacity
Commissioned in 2026, this port infrastructure lives up to all its promises and has reached its cruising speed on November 22, 2030. Over the years, the site has become a true energy hub, particularly on the gas front.
What a journey since April 2025 when a call for expressions of interest was launched for the construction of an LNG terminal to select an operator as well as investors for this structuring energy infrastructure!
The fabulous story of Tangier Med is being repeated with a particular focus on “the methanier terminal project,” which is backed by a hydrocarbon terminal.
Not to mention the coal terminal, the goods terminal, and two container terminals with a capacity of 3.4 million TEUs. As a reminder, some 420 million dollars were mobilized for this large industrial-port complex.
