Weather: Heatwave and thunderstorms expected in several regions of Morocco

The General Directorate of Meteorology has placed several Moroccan provinces under an orange alert, announcing a combination of intense heat and localised thunderstorms across a large part of the national territory between Friday and Monday.

The most extreme temperatures, ranging between 40 and 43°C, are expected from Friday to Monday in the southern provinces: Tata, Es‑Semara, Assa‑Zag, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Eddahab. A similar episode, with temperatures ranging between 38 and 41°C, will affect a wide arc of central and northern provinces from Saturday to Monday, including Marrakech, Fez, Meknes, Settat, Khouribga, Khémisset, Taounate, Ouezzane, and Sidi Kacem, among others.

At the same time, localised thundery showers of 15 to 25 mm, accompanied by a risk of hail, are expected on Friday between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. in the provinces of Beni Mellal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, and Khénifra.
