UNESCO: Morocco Elected to the Council of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property
The Kingdom will be represented on this body by Rabiaa Harrak, Chief Architect at the Department of Historical Heritage of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, for a 4-year term.
Morocco was elected to the Council of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), during the 34th General Assembly of this intergovernmental organization under UNESCO, held in Rome from December 10 to 12.
The Kingdom will be represented on this body responsible for the safeguarding and restoration of world cultural heritage by Rabiaa Harrak, Chief Architect at the Department of Historical Heritage of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, for a 4-year term.
Morocco’s election to this prestigious council constitutes new recognition of Moroccan expertise in the field of cultural heritage preservation, and it also consecrates the Kingdom’s leadership in international bodies dedicated to culture.
Morocco participated in this 34th session of ICCROM through a delegation led by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the UN agencies in Rome, Youssef Balla.
Held under the theme “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development,” this session discussed proposals to amend ICCROM’s fundamental texts, as well as financial matters and the implementation of programs, while also working on reforms aimed at strengthening the organization’s effectiveness, transparency, and good governance.
The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation of Cultural Property, headquartered in Rome, supports member states through training programs, technical assistance, applied research, and capacity building in the field of tangible, immovable, and movable heritage.
Since joining the center in 1958, Morocco has actively participated in its programs and initiatives, thereby contributing to the development of international standards for the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. This sustained participation reflects the Kingdom’s constant commitment to the protection and preservation of historical sites and cities and to the valorization of the rich national cultural heritage.
