Morocco solidified its position as Africa’s top tourist destination in 2025, welcoming nearly 20 million international tourists, a 14% increase compared to 2024, according to a report published Tuesday by UN Tourism.

This performance comes despite a global context marked by “high inflation in tourism services and uncertainties linked to geopolitical tensions,” highlighted UN Tourism Secretary-General, Cheikha Al Nowais, in a statement.

According to the Madrid-based UN agency, the number of international tourist trips made last year increased by 4% compared to 2024 (1.4 billion), generating estimated global revenues of $1.9 trillion, up 5% year-on-year. “We anticipate this positive trend to continue in 2026, in a context where the global economy is expected to remain generally stable,” added Cheikha Al Nowais.

On a regional scale, Africa recorded an 8% increase in the number of international travelers, driven notably by the dynamic observed in Morocco. The Asia-Pacific region, for its part, showed a 6% increase, according to the UN agency’s report.

Europe, the world’s leading tourist region, with France and Spain at the forefront, totaled 793 million international arrivals in 2025, up 4% compared to 2024 and 6% compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the Americas, Brazil recorded strong growth of 37% year-on-year, according to the UN Tourism report.

Target of 26 million tourists

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the performance of Morocco’s tourism sector results from the implementation of the Tourism Roadmap 2023-2026, focusing particularly on strengthening air connectivity, structuring accommodation capacity, diversifying the offer, improving service quality, and stimulating territorial investment.

This dynamic was accompanied by record tourism revenues, which reached 124 billion dirhams at the end of November 2025, an increase of 19% compared to the previous year, confirming the role of tourism as a lever for economic growth at the territorial level.

The Ministry recalls that the Kingdom aims to welcome 26 million tourists and position itself as a benchmark destination by 2030.
