Tourism: 2,500 establishments to undergo mystery visits from May 2026
The scheme applies to establishments classified as three stars and above, including hotels, riads, guest houses and tourist residences. Provided for under Law 80‑14, this system marks an evolution in the hotel classification framework.
Morocco is launching mystery guest visits in tourist establishments starting in May 2026. Around 2,500 hotels and accommodation facilities will be assessed across the Kingdom.
The system applies to establishments classified as three stars and above, including hotels, riads, guest houses and tourist residences. Provided for under Law 80‑14, this mechanism marks an evolution in the hotel classification system.
The assessment is no longer limited to infrastructure alone, but now incorporates the actual quality of service. The process is based on two stages: an official inspection and an anonymous mystery visit.
The audit covers the entire customer journey, from reservation to check‑out. Evaluation grids include up to 387 criteria, depending on the type of establishment. Hotel classification thus becomes temporary and revisable, with regular controls.
The objective is to improve the quality of the tourism offering and to reach 26 million tourists by 2030.
