Social aid: Lekjaa sets the record straight
In response to an oral question regarding the criteria adopted to determine the socio-economic index, Fouzi Lekjaa noted that the related data is subject to regular updating to ensure fair distribution of social aid.
Data relating to the social aid system is regularly updated “in order to guarantee the fairest possible allocation of aid,” said the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, on Monday at the House of Representatives.
Responding to an oral question on “the criteria adopted to determine the socio-economic index,” Mr. Lekjaa emphasized that “the direct social aid system has reached a decisive stage, marked by a transition from a logic based on administrative documents to a system relying on analysis and precision according to criteria that incorporate territorial and regional specificities into the scoring process.”
In this context, the minister pointed out that this system is based on 35 variables in urban areas and 28 in rural areas, while the eligibility threshold has been set at 9.743001.
Thus, this mechanism has enabled 3.8 million households, or 42% of Moroccan families, to benefit from the aid up to the end of last November, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 12.4 million people, he specified.
At the same time, Mr. Lekjaa noted that the success of this operation is linked to the continued updating of the related database, based on variables derived from census results and the proper use of technological tools, in order to ensure fair distribution of aid.
