Sahara: The United Kingdom Reaffirms its Support for the Autonomy Plan
This position was reiterated by Hamish Falconer, UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, during a speech in the House of Commons, the lower chamber of the Westminster Parliament.
The British government reiterated on Thursday its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for a lasting solution to the conflict surrounding the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was reaffirmed by Hamish Falconer, UK Minister at the Foreign Office responsible for the Middle East and North Africa, during a speech in the House of Commons, the lower chamber of the Westminster Parliament.
The United Kingdom wishes to see a lasting solution to the Sahara conflict, Mr. Falconer said, adding: “We believe that our support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for a durable solution contributes to that goal.”
For this reason, the official emphasized, “we have also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.”
