Royal Theatre of Rabat: Morocco enters the “big league”
According to Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, the completion of the Mohammed VI Tower and the Royal Theatre of Rabat positions Morocco firmly within modernity, in line with the strategy and the forward-looking vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
With the inauguration of the Royal Theatre of Rabat, Morocco is entering the “big league” in the field of live performance, the minister said.
“With the Royal Theatre, we are entering the big league and will continue the professionalisation of cultural action,” Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid explained in an interview published on Tuesday by the French daily Le Figaro, adding that this major landmark reflects the image of a Morocco that remains faithful to its roots while being open to modern solutions.
According to Mr Bensaid, the completion of the Mohammed VI Tower and the Royal Theatre of Rabat firmly anchors Morocco in modernity, in line with the strategy and the forward-looking vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He went on to say that lovers of the arts and culture will benefit from a high-level programme that will take into account both national and international stages, with an outlook open to what is happening on the other side of the Mediterranean, particularly in France.
“We will have access to top-quality performances. Sometimes you have to wait months to hope to attend a show in Paris or London. We are aiming for the same level of quality,” he stressed.
The minister also underlined the positive impact of such major projects on tourism. “We have a form of cultural tourism centred on emblematic medinas, from Fez to Marrakech,” he said, noting that “we are going to diversify the offer thanks to the Royal Theatre of Rabat, but also through the enhancement of archaeological sites.”
The aim today is for the cultural industry to take its full place in order to meet the needs of economic growth, he explained. Mr Bensaid also welcomed the excellent state of cultural cooperation relations between Morocco and France.
“Relations are excellent. There is intense work between our two ministries to share expertise. France, for example in the field of publishing, has know-how from which we benefit. We also have an advanced partnership in the field of archaeology,” he said with satisfaction.
