Robotic surgery: Mohammed V Military Hospital in Rabat successfully performs a fully intracorporeal neobladder reconstruction

This procedure, considered one of the most complex in urological surgery, involves the complete removal of the bladder followed by the reconstruction of a new bladder (neobladder) from a segment of the digestive tract, all performed with robotic assistance.

The urology department of the Mohammed V Military Instruction Hospital in Rabat successfully performed a radical cysto-prostatectomy combined with a totally intracorporeal neobladder reconstruction using robot-assisted surgery on a 70-year-old patient.

This procedure, considered one of the most complex in urological surgery, involves the complete removal of the bladder followed by the reconstruction of a new bladder from a segment of the digestive tract, all carried out with robotic assistance.

Long associated with high morbidity and prolonged recovery, the procedure now benefits from robotic technology, which allows for a more precise minimally invasive approach, a significant reduction in complications, and faster functional recovery.

The results for the patient operated on are particularly encouraging: as early as the second postoperative day, he regained almost complete autonomy, with a satisfactory clinical assessment by the fourth day.

In less than six months of robotic activity, the urology department has already performed nearly 100 robot-assisted procedures, including nine radical cystectomies, confirming its position among the most active national centres in this field and its leading role in the development of robotic surgery in Morocco.
