Railway: ONCF mobilizes over MAD 21 million for maintenance of its rolling stock
ONCF has launched a major tender, estimated at more than 21 million dirhams, for the repair and overhaul of the electrical components of its rail fleet. Divided into five lots covering different types of locomotives and trainsets, this contract aims to strengthen the reliability, safety and availability of trains, in the context of the ongoing modernization of the national rail network.
The National Office of Railways (ONCF) has just published a major tender for the repair, refurbishment and overhaul of the electrical components of its train fleet. Split into five distinct lots, this contract represents an estimated annual investment of more than 21 million dirhams (MAD).
ONCF carries millions of passengers and tons of freight across the Kingdom. To keep its equipment in perfect working order, the Office regularly invests in preventive and corrective maintenance. This tender is part of a broader strategy to modernize the rail fleet, notably in response to the aging of some of the vehicles still in service.
The contract is organized into 5 specialized lots that cover different types of equipment. The first lot concerns the repair of the electrical components of RA ZM multiple units, often used on suburban lines such as Al Bidaoui, for an estimated amount of around MAD 5.67 million. The second lot covers the double-deck RA Z2M sets as well as E1250 locomotives, with a provisional budget of MAD 3.75 million. The third lot is dedicated to E1100 locomotives for an amount exceeding MAD 7 million.
Furthermore, the fourth lot groups the interventions at the MMD center in Oujda in the east of the country, while the fifth lot concerns work on MRV and MD equipment based in Meknès, for an estimated amount of MAD 1.69 million. For each component entrusted, the selected companies will have an execution period of 30 days from when it is made available.
These services cover essential components such as traction motors, electrical control systems, safety equipment and power cabinets. Rigorous maintenance of these elements helps prevent in-service failures, extend the lifespan of the equipment and preserve train punctuality, an aspect particularly important for Moroccan travelers.
This tender, the bids for which are scheduled to be opened on July 22, comes as ONCF continues its large development program with the expansion of the high-speed network, the acquisition of new trainsets and the overall strengthening of maintenance.
