Morocco is participating in the 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair
The fair, which runs until 23 May, will feature the signing of more than 140 new publications and the presentation of over 1.8 million books.
The Doha International Book Fair opened its doors on Thursday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in the Qatari capital, marking its 35th edition. Around 520 Arab and international publishing houses are taking part, including nine Moroccan publishers. This edition stands out for its particular focus on publications for children and young people.
The opening ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, was marked by the launch of the book project “This is Qatar”, a cultural and documentary encyclopaedia tracing the history of Qatar for a global audience. Presented as one of the highlights of the fair, this project aims to enrich Arab publishing while showcasing Qatari history, culture and heritage.
The fair, which runs until 23 May, will feature the signing of more than 140 new publications and the presentation of over 1.8 million books. It also includes five interactive spaces for children and a mobile library that will visit twelve schools in Doha, with the aim of bringing reading closer to students. Organisers hope to expand this initiative through travelling book caravans across several regions, seeking to combine book culture with a thoughtful use of modern technologies for the benefit of younger generations.
On the cultural side, conferences, seminars and museum exhibitions address a range of themes, including “The Culture of Gastronomy in the Islamic World” and “Wonders of the Atlas: A Journey through Morocco’s Heritage”, offered by Qatar Museums in several languages.
