Morocco–EU Partnership: “Rich, multidimensional and privileged”

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, described on Thursday the partnership between the EU and Morocco as “rich, multidimensional and privileged,” praising a relationship “forged over more than half a century of close cooperation and mutual trust.”

In a Joint Communiqué issued following her meeting in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the European official emphasized “the depth, dynamism and strategic importance” of this partnership, reaffirming the shared commitment to strengthening “this strategic relationship between equals.”

Ms. Kallas also highlighted the future prospects of this exceptional cooperation, noting that both parties agreed to finalize, in a timely manner, a “strategic and comprehensive partnership” that will elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

In this spirit, the EU and Morocco agreed to strengthen the cycle of institutional meetings within the framework of the Association Agreement, in order to ensure continuity and predictability in their cooperation.

Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on regional and international crises, notably the war in Iran, the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine, and the Sahel region, reaffirming their shared commitment to a rules-based international order and effective multilateralism.

This visit to Rabat, the first of its kind for the senior European official, reflects the EU’s growing recognition of Morocco’s key role under the leadership of His Majesty the King, as well as the convergence of views between the two partners to build a common future based on respect, trust, and shared ambition in the service of European and Moroccan citizens.
