Mohammedia: MAD 52 million for a fibreglass pipe manufacturing plant

The Plastima Group inaugurated, on Monday, at its Ech-Chellalate industrial site in Mohammedia, its new FlowPipe industrial unit, dedicated to the production of glass fibre‑reinforced polyester (GRP) pipes, destined in particular for the Kingdom’s major hydraulic projects.

The new industrial unit, inaugurated during a ceremony attended by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, marks a new phase in the Group’s industrial development. It represents a total investment of 52 million dirhams (MAD), carried out under an agreement signed with the State in December 2024.

This unit will enable the creation of 83 permanent jobs and will contribute to strengthening national industrial capacity, while supporting the momentum of import substitution in a strategic technical segment linked to hydraulic infrastructure.

With an initial production capacity of around 200 kilometres of pipes per year—set to be increased over the coming months—FlowPipe aims to structure a local industrial offering tailored to the growing needs of water networks, irrigation systems and the major structuring projects launched by the Kingdom.

In a statement to the press on this occasion, Mr Mezzour stressed that the project falls within the implementation of the High Royal Guidelines aimed at reinforcing Morocco’s industrial sovereignty and water sovereignty.

According to the Minister, the new unit supports major Royal projects in the water sector, particularly water transfer schemes, while also helping to enhance local manufacturing capabilities as a substitute for imports.

For his part, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Plastima Group, Yassine Benmlih Fath, indicated that the commissioning of this unit represents “an important milestone” in the Group’s growth, as it structures an industrial capacity dedicated to a strategic segment while providing a local response to the growing needs associated with hydraulic infrastructure.

The unit complies with international standards as well as Moroccan norms, he noted in a similar statement, adding that the project forms part of a national dynamic characterised by significant investments in the water sector.

The solutions developed by the unit cover diameters of up to 3 metres, with pressure resistance capacities of up to 32 bars and a stiffness class reaching 20,000 N/m² and above, thereby meeting the requirements of large-scale hydraulic projects.

The project comes in a context marked by sustained investment efforts in water-related infrastructure, notably driven by the National Programme for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation, which mobilises substantial resources to ensure the long-term security of the Kingdom’s water resources.

Through this unit, Plastima aims to support the growing needs generated by the development of water networks, irrigation systems and associated infrastructure, while also contributing to reducing dependence on imports for this type of technical solution.
