Mohammed V Airport: Construction of the New Terminal Awarded to the Moroccan Consortium SGTM/TGCC

Following the call for tenders launched by the National Airports Office (ONDA), the contract for the construction of the new terminal at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport has been awarded to the 100% Moroccan consortium SGTM (Société Générale des Travaux du Maroc)/TGCC (Travaux Généraux de Construction de Casablanca), for an amount of 12.8 billion dirhams (MMDH).

“Given its scale, this project constitutes the largest airport construction site ever undertaken in Morocco. It marks a historic turning point in the evolution of the Kingdom’s main airport and reflects the ambition to equip Casablanca with an infrastructure commensurate with its role as a regional and international hub,” states ONDA in a press release.

Beyond the investment, the project stands out for an exemplary management of the process, entirely completed in barely eighteen months, including the programming of the airport’s infrastructure development, the architectural and technical study, as well as an 8-month period between the call for expressions of interest launched in April 2025 and the awarding of the contract.

An exceptional timeline for an infrastructure of this complexity, indicative of strengthened governance, a controlled decision-making engineering, and an execution capacity aligned with the best international practices.

Through the scale of its investment, the rigor of its approach, and the vision it embodies, this project is part of ONDA’s “Airport 2030” strategy, whose ambition is to elevate Moroccan airports to the highest level of performance, efficiency, and international connectivity.

The new terminal, with an area of 600,000 m², is designed to handle 20 million passengers per year in a first phase, with an extensible capacity to 30 million. It embodies a feat that is architectural, functional, and operational, integrating high standards in terms of design, passenger flow efficiency, environmental performance, and intelligent flow management. The architecture prioritizes innovation, ergonomics, and operational efficiency. It will, moreover, be connected to the future high-speed line from Tangier to Marrakech.

The new terminal will also strongly support the ramp-up of Royal Air Maroc’s development plan. It will be able to accommodate up to 45 aircraft simultaneously at contact stands, offering smoother boarding and disembarkation for passengers.

This construction site will mobilize very high-level national expertise and will constitute a major challenge in terms of project management and multi-disciplinary coordination. It will also generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs and will invigorate the entire national construction (BTP) sector and associated services.

The project’s completion timeline is 40 months, and the work completion date is scheduled for mid-2029.
