Marrakech: Sidi Youssef Ben Ali Pool to Be Renovated for Nearly 10 Million Dirhams

The semi-Olympic covered pool of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, inaugurated in October 2018, is set to undergo a major upgrade. A tender has just been launched for the renovation of this strategic sports facility, with an estimated budget of 9,978,118.80 DH, or nearly 10 million dirhams.

Spanning a covered area of 1,387 m², the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali pool features a semi-Olympic basin with a volume of 620 m³, including six 25-meter lanes, modern locker rooms and showers, bleachers with a capacity of 200 seats, and a fitness room open to the public.

Designed to combine energy performance and contemporary architecture, it also incorporates design elements inspired by Moroccan craftsmanship.

From its inception, the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali semi-Olympic pool has stood out for its focus on energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The building benefits from full insulation of external walls and technical rooms, reducing energy consumption by approximately 30% compared to a traditional pool.

The pool is heated by heat pumps, while the production of hot water for showers relies on solar panels. The building’s lighting is entirely provided by LED bulbs, and roof vents ensure ventilation and natural lighting of the pool, contributing to more economical and sustainable operation. This commitment to sustainable development has allowed the pool to meet international energy efficiency standards.

A Major Upgrade Project

The work planned as part of the new tender involves a comprehensive modernization of the infrastructure, covering a wide range of technical and architectural aspects. The contract includes structural work, waterproofing and coatings, as well as wood, aluminum, and metal joinery operations. Plumbing and sanitary installations will be renovated, along with fire protection systems and the electrical substation.

The project also includes upgrades to electrical systems, lighting fixtures, and the video surveillance system. Painting and glazing work, renewal of pool equipment, and landscaping of outdoor spaces complete this extensive rehabilitation program.

The deadline for completion of the work is set at seven (7) months, starting from the date of notification of the work commencement order.

As a reminder, the tender procedure, launched at the national level, will reach its decisive stage on December 18, 2025, the scheduled date for bid opening. Following this process, the selected company must begin work within the allotted timeframe to ensure a complete and lasting upgrade of the facility.
