IOM: Morocco, the Leading Contributor to the Resilience Fund
The Kingdom of Morocco became on Monday the leading contributing country to the new Resilience Fund of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), announced Amy Pope, Director-General of the UN agency.
This initiative aims to mobilize $100 million in flexible funding to support IOM’s essential humanitarian operations as well as its emergency responses in favor of migrants and displaced populations.
“We are proud to announce that Morocco has made an exceptional voluntary contribution to the recently launched IOM Resilience Fund, becoming the first member state to do so,” she stated in a message posted on social media.
“Morocco’s support ensures that IOM remains agile, accountable, and ready to act where and when the need arises,” emphasized the UN official.
According to Ms. Pope, this Moroccan contribution fully embodies the goals of the resilience campaign: Mobilizing flexible, unearmarked resources to enable IOM to respond swiftly to crises, strengthen its field operations, and sustain its critical capacities—from emergency response to protection and combating trafficking.
“All of this to maximize positive impact where it matters most: on the ground,” she added.
This unearmarked fund will notably finance protection measures, efforts to combat human trafficking, and direct humanitarian assistance in crisis zones.
With this first contribution, “Morocco reaffirms its leadership in global migration governance and its solidarity with vulnerable displaced communities,” stressed Ms. Pope.
Morocco has been an IOM member state since 1998 and plays an active role in the Geneva-based organization’s governing bodies, notably through the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration, adopted in December 2018 in Marrakech.
