His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan inaugurates the Mohammed VI Tower
On this occasion, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince visited the different components of the Tower, notably the main lobby, where he was able to follow presentations on this imposing structure and samples of the Moroccan artisanal materials used in its construction, as well as the space designed to host conferences and the library.
By order of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan inaugurated, on Monday on the right bank of the Bouregreg, the “Mohammed VI Tower,” a new architectural icon and a symbol of modernity that reflects the emergence and influence of the twin cities of Rabat and Salé, under the impetus of the Sovereign.
On this occasion, His Royal Highness visited the different components of the Tower, notably the main lobby, where HRH the Crown Prince was able to follow presentations on this imposing structure and samples of the Moroccan artisanal materials used in its construction, as well as the space designed to host conferences and the library.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan also visited a show apartment, the Waldorf Astoria hotel, as well as the Rabat and Salé heritage observatory located at the top of the Tower, which offers an exceptional panoramic view of Rabat and Salé, where ramparts, kasbahs, and ancient gates recount the rich past of the two twin cities.
Rising to 250 meters in height (55 floors), the new Tower, which now redefines Rabat’s skyline, combines advanced engineering and elegant design, while complying with the most demanding environmental standards.
It is fully in line with the objectives of the Bouregreg Valley development project, one of the main components of the integrated development program of the city of Rabat, “Rabat, City of Light, Moroccan Capital of Culture,” initiated under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King.
Led by “O Capital Group,” this project includes a luxury hotel, offices, residences, a Rabat and Salé heritage observatory, a conference hall, shops, and restaurants, served by 36 elevators.
The Tower rests on deep foundations of 60 meters, designed to withstand earthquakes and river flooding. These foundations also ensure the long-term stability of the structure in a complex geotechnical environment.
Likewise, to counter movements caused by wind and seismic vibrations, this architectural jewel is equipped with an innovative tuned mass damper system, ensuring comfort and stability for residents on the upper floors.
Moreover, the new Tower, which features two façades—one with dynamic lighting and the other equipped with photovoltaic panels—thus incorporates in its design the best eco-construction practices and next-generation technologies enabling improved energy efficiency, in line with Morocco’s commitments to sustainable development.
Beyond energy efficiency, the “Mohammed VI Tower” integrates advanced systems for energy recovery and rainwater harvesting. These measures have enabled the new Tower to obtain LEED Gold and HQE certifications, positioning this building among the most innovative and high-performing developments on the African continent.
Upon his arrival at the “Mohammed VI Tower,” His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan reviewed a detachment of the Royal Guard that rendered honors, before being greeted by the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and Governor of the Rabat Prefecture, Mohamed Yacoubi; the President of the Regional Council, Rachid El Abdi; the Governor of the Salé Prefecture, Mr. Omar Touimi; the President of the Prefectural Council of Salé, Noureddine Lazrek; and the President of the Municipal Council of Salé, Omar Sentissi.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was also greeted by Othman Benjelloun, Chairman and CEO of “O Capital Group”; Dounia Benjelloun, a member of the group’s board; Zakaria El Kaidi, from the Bouregreg Valley Development Agency; and Jamal Benissa, from the company Aradi Bouregreg.
