Health: Tehraoui signs three international health cooperation agreements
On the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, signed three memoranda of understanding with his Indonesian, Libyan, and Latvian counterparts.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, signed three health-sector memoranda of understanding on Monday, 18 May 2026, in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly.
These agreements were concluded respectively with Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia; Dr Mohammed Ali Al‑Ghouj, Minister of Health of the State of Libya; and Hosam Abu Meri, Minister of Health of the Republic of Latvia.
These instruments form part of strengthening the Kingdom of Morocco’s international health cooperation and reflect the shared commitment of the parties to develop structured, sustainable, and operational partnerships in priority areas for their respective health systems. They focus in particular on strengthening health systems, universal health coverage, human resources development, digital health, telemedicine, medical research and innovation, as well as cooperation in health, pharmaceutical, and vaccine sovereignty.
On the sidelines of these signings, the Minister also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts to examine prospects for concrete cooperation between Morocco and the partner countries. These discussions addressed mechanisms for monitoring the signed agreements, the exchange of expertise and best practices, and the development of joint initiatives in the areas of training, digitalisation of health systems, health governance, and health security.
At the conclusion of these meetings, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to giving these agreements practical effect by establishing regular consultation frameworks and technical coordination mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the commitments made.
These agreements confirm Morocco’s commitment to sharing its experience in health sector reforms, conducted under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI—particularly in relation to the generalisation of social protection, the modernisation of healthcare provision, territorial health governance, and improving equitable access to health services.
The signing of these memoranda opens new prospects for technical and institutional cooperation with partner countries through the development of joint programmes, capacity building, the promotion of innovation, and support for more resilient health systems.
The 79th World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva from 18 to 23 May 2026. It provides member states with a platform to exchange on major global health priorities, particularly universal health coverage, strengthening health systems, and reducing inequalities in access to care.
