Grand Theatre of Fes: Construction Accelerates with a Budget of 68 Million Dirhams
Grand Theatre of Fes Project Gains New Momentum. The Central-East Regional Directorate of the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP) has just launched a call for tenders for technical and finishing works estimated at nearly 68 million dirhams. A decisive step towards the realization of a cultural facility awaited by the spiritual capital.
The construction of the Grand Theatre of Fes reaches a new milestone. A major call for tenders has just been launched for a set of technical and architectural works that will shape the future flagship cultural facility of the Kingdom’s spiritual capital.
With an estimated value of 68 million Moroccan Dirhams, this lot No. 2 covers a broad spectrum of services: coverings, false ceilings, aluminum, wood and metal joinery, as well as electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation, smoke extraction installations, the elevator, and exterior landscaping. The overall execution period is set at 10 months, starting from the order to proceed.
Presented as a future major cultural hub, the Grand Theatre of Fes will consolidate the strategy of the Ministry of Culture aimed at strengthening access to culture in Morocco’s major cities. In Fes, a city with a thousand-year heritage, the initiative carries a strong ambition: to modernize without betraying and to host both local artistic expressions and major international productions.
Project ownership is managed by the ministry, with delegated oversight entrusted to the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP) through its Central-East regional directorate. Design and supervision is handled by the architectural consortium Khalid Bencheqroun & Youssef Benjelloun Touimi, supported by the consulting engineering firm B.E.T.I.B. and the quality control office Côtec.
Demanding Standards and Premium Materials
The service providers, who will be selected on January 20, will have to comply with Moroccan regulations and, in the absence thereof, with international standards (CE, ISO, AFNOR and DTU). Materials must be primarily of local origin: galvanized steel according to NFA standards, Moroccan plaster, hemp produced in the Kingdom… A way to combine technical excellence with support for the national economy.
Within the theatre, visitors will move across luxurious interior surfaces: black galaxy and absolute black granite in the lobby, main staircases, and VIP lounges; grey marble in stairwells and landings; compacto tiling for offices, dressing rooms, rehearsal and service areas. Outside, New Halayeb speckled granite will adorn porches, accessibility ramps, and emergency exits.
The attention paid to safety and comfort is equally pronounced: smoke extraction systems, acoustic performance of rock wool false ceilings, state-of-the-art electrical and pumping installations, intelligent and energy-efficient lighting.
The facility promises to enrich the artistic offering of a city that, beyond the Festival of World Sacred Music, seeks to expand its cultural reach throughout the year. The next step: awarding the contract and the effective start of the works. If the schedule is met, Fes could soon be equipped with a facility worthy of its heritage and its ambitions.
