Essential medicines: Toward the creation of a permanent joint committee
This committee aims to ensure proactive monitoring, anticipate the risks of shortages, and propose appropriate measures guaranteeing the continuity of the supply of healthcare facilities.
The Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MSPS) have recommended the establishment of a permanent joint committee bringing together the AMMPS, the MSPS, and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.
This committee aims to ensure proactive monitoring, anticipate the risks of shortages, and propose appropriate measures guaranteeing the continuity of the supply of healthcare facilities.
This recommendation follows a consultative meeting held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Agency’s headquarters in Rabat, with professional associations representing the national pharmaceutical industry, notably the Moroccan Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry and Innovation (FMIIP), the Moroccan Association of Generic Medicines (AMMG), Pharmaceutical Companies in Morocco (LEMM), and the Council of the Order of Manufacturing and Distributing Pharmacists (COPFR).
Discussions focused on reviewing the availability of essential medicines as well as mechanisms for preventing stock shortages, in a context marked by international supply tensions affecting production and distribution chains.
This initiative is part of the national vision aimed at strengthening pharmaceutical sovereignty, securing the therapeutic arsenal, and consolidating the national pharmaceutical industrial fabric.
