Electricity Consumption: Demand Surges by Over 7%
On the occasion of International Clean Energy Day, Tarik Ameziane Moufaddal, President and CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), highlights in an interview with MAP the achievements and progress made by the Kingdom in its energy transition.
Electricity demand in Morocco is growing by more than 7% annually, driven by economic growth and new uses.
In this context, the Kingdom has made renewable energy a strategic development choice, under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Today, over 46% of the installed electricity capacity comes from renewable sources.
The goal is to reach, or even exceed, 52% by 2030, by strengthening solar and wind power. This transition relies on the deployment of new capacity, storage, system flexibility, and the territorial anchoring of projects.
Starting in 2026, a decisive phase begins with an additional 5 GW of capacity scheduled by 2030. This capacity will be deployed through structuring projects such as Noor Atlas, Noor Midelt, the multi-site photovoltaic projects, and the wind farms of the Nassim program.
