EasyJet launches its first air base in Africa in Marrakech
The opening of this permanent base, operational year-round, will, from the start of operations, make it possible to offer a record volume of 4 million seats to and from Morocco.
The airline EasyJet inaugurated, on Wednesday, its first base in Africa, located at Marrakech-Menara Airport, in line with the strategic partnership concluded in November 2025 with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT).
This inauguration, which comes as EasyJet celebrates 20 years of presence in Morocco, marks a new era for the Kingdom’s air connectivity and for national tourism development.
Equipped with three Airbus aircraft and representing a total investment of more than 150 million euros, this new base also strengthens EasyJet’s position as the second-largest airline in Marrakech.
The opening of this permanent base, operational year-round, makes it possible, from the start of operations, to offer a record volume of 4 million seats to and from Morocco.
From a socio-economic perspective, this establishment is generating around one hundred direct jobs as well as several thousand indirect jobs in the aviation, tourism, and services sectors, while each aircraft based represents approximately 30 million euros in gross added value for the local economic fabric, confirming the structuring role of the air transport sector in territorial growth.
In a statement to the press on this occasion, the Regional Delegate of Tourism in Marrakech-Safi, Mohsine Chafai El Alaoui, emphasized that the development of air connectivity is now a priority within the tourism roadmap, with a direct impact on demand, arrivals, and tourism activity.
Recent years have been marked by a significant increase in arrivals in Marrakech, he noted, adding that the establishment of this new base in the Ochre City will help consolidate this momentum while encouraging the opening of new air routes.
