Death of Filmmaker and Playwright Nabil Lahlou
The actor left a lasting imprint on the Moroccan cinematic scene through several works, including Kanfoudi (1978), his first major success, The Governor General of the Island of Chakerbakerbane (1980), Ibrahim Yash (1984), and The Soul That Brays (1984).
The filmmaker, actor, and playwright Nabil Lahlou passed away on Thursday in Rabat at the age of 81, according to a statement from his family.
The late artist will be laid to rest later the same day following the Asr prayer at the Chouhada Cemetery in Rabat.

In theatre, Nabil Lahlou primarily adapted the works of Shakespeare, notably in his play Ophelia Is Not Dead (1968), inspired by the eponymous character from Hamlet. In addition, his production Salahef (The Tortoises) is regarded as a breakthrough work.
His most recent production, Macha Machmacha Wants a Role in the Film The Trial of Socrates, was presented in March 2026 at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.
