CAN 2025: ONCF Reports Record Results
In total, over 342,000 seats were provided, spread across 1,000 trains, with an average occupancy rate of 84%. ONCF thus set historical records during AFCON 2025, transporting over 95,000 passengers on the TNR and over 25,000 passengers on Al Boraq in a single day.
For the Africa Cup of Nations, the National Railway Office implemented an exceptional rail plan to handle the massive influx of fans, teams, and officials, and to support the success of this major continental event.
According to the Office’s press release, this rail mobilization enabled the transport of over 250,000 fans between the Kingdom’s host cities, thanks to the deployment of 251 additional trains to meet periods of high demand.
According to the same source, in total, more than 342,000 seats were provided, spread across 1,000 trains, with an average occupancy rate of 84%. ONCF thus set historical records, transporting over 95,000 passengers on the TNR and over 25,000 passengers on Al Boraq in a single day.
To ensure a smooth journey for fans, ONCF adapted its service by scheduling exceptional stops for 113 trains from the North and South at the new Rabat Riad station, located near the Moulay Abdellah stadium, as well as for 74 trains at the specially adapted Sidi Brahim station in Marrakech, thereby enhancing rail accessibility to the stadiums.
“This mobilization resulted in an overall 7% increase in passenger traffic during the AFCON period,” it was stated.
ONCF also ensured the rail travel of seven participating African teams, as well as officials, CAF delegations, and VIP personalities, on Al Boraq, Al Atlas, and TNR trains.
On the operational front, ONCF implemented a 24/7 flow management system in nine strategic stations, supported by the opening of an AFCON operational center.
The Office also actively participated in the Rabat region operational center, in coordination with the authorities and all stakeholders, to ensure optimal management of flow, security, and passenger information.
Furthermore, the “Yalla CAN Pass” offer was met with great enthusiasm: 20,000 passes sold, generating 85,000 journeys, of which 46% were made by international customers. This success illustrates the train’s appeal for foreign visitors and reflects ONCF’s effectiveness in managing mobility for an event of this magnitude.
Behind these performances, human commitment stands as the cornerstone of this success: over 800 staff mobilized, including commercial, technical, security teams, and volunteers, in addition to 100% guaranteed equipment availability throughout the competition, ensuring a smooth and secure service for all passengers.
“Through this plan, ONCF reaffirms the strategic role of rail transport in the success of major events, while underscoring its commitment to sustainable, effective mobility that serves Morocco’s standing,” concludes the ONCF press release.
