Bourita: Morocco Reaffirms its Support for Arab Countries in the Face of Regional Tensions
Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reiterates its constant commitment to Arab solidarity and regional stability, calling for a unified stance in the face of security threats and for de-escalation through dialogue.
The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues its consistent policy of effective solidarity with its Arab brothers, thereby embodying a firm Royal stance supporting Arab sovereignty and regional stability in the face of dangerous Iranian escalation, affirmed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Speaking during the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held Sunday via videoconference, Bourita recalled that Morocco, from the very first moments of the outbreak of this crisis, was the first to express its solidarity with its Arab brothers, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions.
The minister also recalled that His Majesty the King held direct talks with his brothers, the leaders of the Gulf countries, during which the Sovereign “reaffirmed the Kingdom of Morocco’s firm condemnation of the despicable aggressions targeting the sovereignty of these brotherly states and the security of their territories, as well as His Majesty’s support and full backing for these countries in all legitimate measures they deem appropriate to preserve their security and the peace of mind of their citizens.”
The Arab region is going through a delicate and extremely complex period, where “it is subjected to relentless aggressions that have exceeded all limits, targeting innocent civilians and vital infrastructure such as airports, ports, and energy facilities, in flagrant violation of international law and established norms, and in an unprecedented infringement on the right of the peoples of the region to live in dignity and security,” Bourita continued.
The minister specified that these attacks targeted Arab countries that were not party to any conflict, warning that “the continuation of these aggressions, if not contained, risks expanding this conflict and turning it into a regional confrontation threatening the stability of the entire region, and even global peace,” emphasizing the considerable damage these aggressions have caused to the regional and international economy.
“Where are these crises leading us? And how long will the Iranian regime continue to undermine the security and stability of the region in a campaign of aggression that has lasted for half a century?” Mr. Bourita asked, referring to the concern expressed at the Arab level regarding this situation.
In light of this reality, the minister affirmed that the historic responsibility incumbent upon Arab states requires confronting this conduct with firmness and determination, reiterating his call on Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817, as well as to immediately and unconditionally cease all its aggressions, and to work toward “the formulation of a unified and firm Arab position in the face of this hostile behavior.”
He also called for supporting “Arab states in all legitimate measures they take to protect their territories” and for “taking immediate and decisive measures to ensure the security of regional airspace and the safety of maritime navigation in the region.”
The Kingdom of Morocco, which is closely following the initiatives and mediation proposals that have recently emerged, reaffirms that serious dialogue, guided by reason, remains the only path capable of restoring security and stability in the region, Bourita noted, announcing that the Kingdom supports and values any initiative aimed at de-escalation, ending the hemorrhage of the conflict, and laying the foundations to ensure that it does not recur in the future, regardless of the circumstances, with a view to preserving the right of brotherly Arab states and their peoples to live in peace, stability, and security.
He concluded that Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will remain unwavering in defending the supreme interests of the Arab nation, as well as security and stability in the region, thus embodying a pioneering model of concrete solidarity and principled positions.
