Agadir-Dakar Maritime Route: A Catalyst for Bilateral and Pan-African Trade and Collaboration

The planned commercial maritime route between Agadir and Dakar is poised to “energize bilateral exchanges and stimulate trade flows across the African continent,” notes the Senegalese daily Le Soleil.
This maritime route, formalized by the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on December 11, 2024, between British company Atlas Marine and the Souss-Massa region, aims to provide an efficient and secure alternative to road transport while reducing delivery times and costs for goods, the publication highlights.
For Moroccan economic stakeholder Ayoub Allaoui, quoted by the newspaper, this initiative “comes at an opportune time.” He added that it will contribute to strengthening the robust ties between the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples, the economic partnership between the two nations, and intra-African trade.
Senegalese consultant Elhadji Moussa Diagne, meanwhile, argues that the route could enhance the visibility of Senegalese products in the Moroccan market, advocating for deeper economic collaboration between the two countries.
Beyond a mere maritime link, the project aligns with a broader vision of strategic and pan-African cooperation, concludes the Senegalese newspaper.
