Agadir anticipates the summer season
The seaside resort is already preparing for the summer as part of a logic of continuous coastal management. Safety, mobility, cleanliness, and the quality of visitor reception are among the key priorities. The objective is to align beach management with the destination’s tourist image.
In Agadir, preparations for the summer season are no longer a simple, one-off operation tied to the holiday period. The meeting held this Tuesday, 12 May, at the headquarters of the Souss‑Massa regional wilaya, chaired by the wali Saâïd Amzazi, reflects a broader approach: one that conceives of the coastline as an active space throughout the year, in line with Agadir’s positioning as a destination oriented towards a permanent summer.
The importance of this meeting lies precisely in this shift in logic. Rather than signalling the launch of a new season, its aim was to extend and adapt a management framework that has already been in place across all the prefecture’s beaches since last year. Underlying this approach is a clear objective: to ensure that local management of the seafront remains aligned with the destination’s national tourism image.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned from the 2025 season, presented as a milestone in strengthening both the functional organisation of the beaches and their aesthetic quality. The challenge now is to consolidate this approach by embedding it within a long-term framework.
The measures discussed reveal a desire to address issues of safety, cleanliness, mobility and quality of reception in an integrated manner. Key priorities include regulating jet-ski rental activities through dedicated access corridors and zones, maintaining a sufficient number of lifeguards throughout the year, and updating signage as well as information and awareness-raising systems.
Other, more operational points were also highlighted, such as the removal of vegetation along the coastline following recent rainfall, the continued control of stray dogs, prevention of the Hantavirus through rodent control and insect eradication measures, and ensuring smooth traffic circulation—considered essential for both mobility and the effectiveness of emergency services.
Upgrading and maintaining spaces dedicated to sports and leisure activities were also identified as priority areas. This is not insignificant: it shows that summer preparation is no longer limited to swimming or beach use alone, but now encompasses the wider urban and tourist experience of the coastline.
Overall, the meeting reflects an evolution in the way Agadir’s seafront is managed. The summer season is no longer conceived as a temporary interlude, but as a period of intensified activity within a framework of continuous management—an approach aimed at strengthening the territory’s attractiveness, enhancing user safety, and improving the quality of reception along the coast.
