2030 World Cup: MAD 883 Million for the Upgrade of the Grand Stade de Marrakech
The objective is to align the infrastructure with the standards set by FIFA as part of the joint hosting of the 2030 World Cup by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Four years ahead of the 2030 World Cup, Morocco is continuing the modernization of major stadiums set to host this flagship competition. In this context, the National Public Facilities Agency (ANEP) has just launched the tender for the upgrade works of the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
With a budget of MAD 883.2 million, this first phase covers dismantling and demolition works, structural works, waterproofing, finishes, suspended ceilings, joinery, and painting. Scheduled over a period of fifteen months, the project will be supervised by architect Saad Benkirane, the stadium’s original designer, in collaboration with Gregotti Associati International.
The objective is to align the stadium’s infrastructure with the standards set by FIFA as part of the co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Among the main planned transformations is the removal of the athletics track, which will bring the stands closer to the pitch and enhance the spectator experience. The project also includes reconfiguring part of the seating to increase the stadium’s capacity from 41,000 to 46,000 seats.
