Westeros Won’t Rest: Renewals for ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

“House of the Dragon” has been renewed for a fourth season, set to premiere on HBO in 2028, following the third season scheduled for summer 2026. This renewal announcement was made during an HBO press presentation in New York, where CEO Casey Bloys also revealed that the other “Game of Thrones” prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” has been renewed for a second season before its debut on January 18, 2024, with its second season planned for 2027. Fans of the franchise can look forward to new content from Westeros every year until 2028. “House of the Dragon,” based on George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” explores the Targaryen family story set 200 years before “Game of Thrones.” The series features a notable cast including Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy and is created by Ryan Condal, who serves as showrunner alongside Martin and other executive producers. Francesca Orsi, HBO’s EVP of programming, expressed enthusiasm for the new seasons, emphasizing how they continue to expand the rich universe conceived by Martin, and hinted at exciting narratives in both series.
