Taylor Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl” sold 304,000 copies in its UK opening week, breaking her previous sales records, and achieved 2.7 million sales in the US within three days. Additionally, it set a new record for vinyl sales with 1.2 million copies sold, while her related film grossed $46 million in ticket sales.
Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” has achieved significant commercial success, selling 304,000 copies in its opening week in the UK, marking the highest first-week sales of 2025. This figure surpasses the first-week sales of her previous two albums, with “The Tortured Poets Department” at 270,000 copies and “Midnights” at 204,000 copies. Additionally, it stands as the biggest first-week sales since Ed Sheeran’s 2017 album “Divide,” which sold 672,000 copies.
In the US, Swift reached a remarkable 2.7 million sales within just three days, recording her largest sales week ever and the second-largest for any album since 1991. The only album to have performed better is Adele’s “25,” which sold 3.378 million copies in its first week in 2015. “The Life of a Showgirl” also set a new US record for vinyl album sales, with 1.2 million copies sold, surpassing her own record from “The Tortured Poets Department,” which had 859,000 vinyl sales in its opening week.
Despite an overall decline in album sales in the music industry, where only one other album in the UK surpassed 100,000 sales this year, Swift’s success stands out. Moreover, her recent film, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party Of A Showgirl,” generated $46 million (£34 million) in ticket sales, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and the premiere of her music video. The album, written during her Eras Tour, has received mixed reviews, with critics offering varying assessments of its quality. Swift addressed rumors of retirement, emphasizing her commitment to her music career.
