King Charles is set to address the US Congress, emphasizing the enduring bond between the UK and the US, and calling for “reconciliation and renewal” amid current tensions, particularly related to the Iran war. The King will express sympathy for a recent attack in Washington, reinforcing the importance of democratic values in facing global challenges. His speech, advised by the government and anticipated to last 20 minutes, will highlight the necessity of standing together to defend principles of tolerance, liberty, and equality. Accompanied by Queen Camilla, this visit marks the first state visit by a British monarch to the US since 2007. The royal couple’s itinerary includes engagements such as a garden party at the UK embassy, where Queen Camilla interacted with advocates for domestic abuse survivors. Despite calls for the royal couple to meet with survivors of Jeffrey Epstein, this has not occurred due to concerns over ongoing legal matters. The visit aims to strengthen UK-US relations during a significant year marking the US’s 250th anniversary of independence.
