Box Office Highlights: Super Mario Galaxy’s Strong Second Weekend

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” achieved significant box office success in its second weekend, generating $69 million across 4,284 theaters in the U.S. and Canada, bringing its domestic total to $308.1 million and global earnings to $629 million. While this reflects a 48% drop from its opening weekend, it is still considered a respectable hold for a blockbuster, especially given its production budget of $110 million. However, it trails behind the first film, which had earned $353 million domestically by its second weekend.
In addition to this sequel, Universal’s new release, “You, Me & Tuscany,” debuted in fourth place, earning $8 million with a predominantly female audience. The film received mixed reviews but had a favorable audience score. Other notable performances included “Project Hail Mary” in second place with $24.6 million and “The Drama” in third with $8.7 million. Overall, the weekend showed promise as the box office prepares for the summer movie season, with a variety of films attracting diverse audiences.
