Over the next two to three years, 50% to 55% of jobs in the US will be transformed due to AI, resulting in new expectations for employees while retaining their roles. The study reveals that while job augmentation and creation will occur rapidly, a slower substitution of jobs will happen, with an estimated 10% to 15% potentially eliminated in the next five years. The analysis utilizes microeconomic modeling and focuses specifically on roles categorized by their automation potential. It highlights that “For roles with meaningful automation potential, we assessed whether AI is more likely to substitute for labor or augment it,” depending on human value within those roles. The research assesses task automation potential using a structured rubric, concluding that 43% of jobs are at least 40% automatable, indicating a significant potential for redundancy. As AI becomes integrated, the workforce will evolve with five disruption segments identified: amplified, rebalanced, divergent, substituted, and enabled roles. It is noted that “those who cut their workforce beyond AI’s ability to replace it will see productivity drop.” The report emphasizes the imperative need for company leaders to embed workforce strategy into competitive strategy, focusing on upskilling, reskilling, and redesigning roles to align with AI capabilities. As AI redefines work processes, leaders must manage transitions carefully to avoid skill gaps and resistance from employees who may fear displacement. Ultimately, “shaping the AI narrative to unlock performance” will be crucial in maximizing productivity gains while fostering a workplace culture that embraces technological advancement. The insights derived from the analysis underscore the significant impact AI will have on labor dynamics, requiring strategic preparation from organizations to navigate these changes effectively.
