Signing of 4 Agreements for the Development of Craftsmanship in Essaouira

Four agreements have been signed in Essaouira to structure and develop local craftsmanship. These agreements aim to promote artisanal sectors, preserve endangered crafts, and improve working conditions for artisans. They specifically focus on supporting activities related to thuya wood, argan, and traditional Gnaoua musical instruments, as well as ensuring access to raw materials and creating a dedicated space for argan, funded at 7 million dirhams.

During the ceremony, the Secretary of State for Crafts, Lahcen Essaadi, emphasized the importance of these partnerships for the economic and social integration of artisans.

The president of the Regional Craft Chamber, Hassan Choumais, praised the commitment of various stakeholders to the development of the sector, while the president of the Essaouira Municipal Council, Tarik Ottmani, stressed the need to strengthen infrastructure and training.

Abdellatif Mait, head of Andzoa in Essaouira, reminded attendees that the province, with its vast argan forests and numerous cooperatives, represents significant potential for sustainable and inclusive development.

At this event, the ministry also announced the launch of the label “Thuya Products – Essaouira Mogador,” the first geographical indication for craftsmanship in Morocco.

This initiative aims to ensure the authenticity of local artisanal products and facilitate their access to international markets.
