Akhannouch: Morocco places health sovereignty at the heart of its development strategy
Co-chairing a Panel on Health Sovereignty alongside the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Mr Akhannouch emphasised that the vision of sovereignty and health security in Morocco is being implemented through concrete reforms. He noted that the Kingdom has chosen to place health sovereignty at the core of its development trajectory through several strategic priority actions.
Citing the key priorities, the Head of Government recalled the Kingdom’s rollout of compulsory health insurance, which now covers 88% of the Moroccan population, as well as the restructuring of the national healthcare system, notably through strengthened governance, the upgrading of healthcare provision, and substantial investment in human resources.
He added that this also includes the establishment of sustainable health financing, through the mobilisation of public resources, public–private partnerships, and investment in local pharmaceutical production. This has enabled the Kingdom to meet more than 70% of national needs. The Head of Government made these remarks during the Panel held as part of the Africa Forward Summit, currently taking place in the Kenyan capital.
