Air travel: Launch of a new Strasbourg–Marrakech route
The airline EasyJet has launched a direct route between Marrakech and Strasbourg, with two flights per week, every Thursday and Sunday.
A new direct air route between Strasbourg and Marrakech was launched on Sunday, operated by the low‑cost airline EasyJet. The route connects Strasbourg–Entzheim Airport with Marrakech Menara Airport, with two flights per week, every Thursday and Sunday.
The new service aims to improve connectivity between the two cities, which was previously ensured mainly through stopovers or other airport hubs. It offers passengers a direct alternative, catering both to economic and tourist travel as well as to flows linked to diaspora communities.
For the Consul General of Morocco in Strasbourg, Soumia Bouhamidi, this new air route marks the opening of a new gateway to greater cooperation, opportunities and mobility between the two countries.
“This service will undoubtedly help boost economic exchanges, support tourism and further strengthen relations between the two shores,” she underlined in a statement to MAP, on the occasion of the inauguration of the route.
She also highlighted the importance of this service for the Moroccan community, which is particularly numerous in eastern France. “Far more than a simple air service, the new route will help bring families closer together, simplify travel and preserve a highly valuable human, cultural and emotional link between Strasbourg and Marrakech,” she affirmed.
For his part, the President of Strasbourg–Entzheim International Airport, Gilles Telliers, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the inaugural flight, which was “fully booked” both outbound and inbound, operated by a 157‑seat Airbus A319.
“We are very pleased to welcome this new route to Morocco, and to Marrakech in particular, both for tourists and for visiting‑friends‑and‑relatives traffic. It is one of the strengths of Strasbourg as a local airport, enabling easy access to Marrakech,” he said with satisfaction.
Mr Telliers explained that the launch of this new service forms part of Strasbourg Airport’s strategy to diversify its activity by working with as many airlines as possible.
This route responds to growing connectivity needs between the two major urban areas. It will greatly facilitate travel for families, students, entrepreneurs and tourists, he added.
Travellers departing from Strasbourg did not hide their satisfaction on the occasion of this first direct flight to Marrakech, highlighting the comfort and time savings offered by the new connection.
Several passengers explained that until now they had had to make long detours via Basel in Switzerland or Baden‑Baden in Germany, or endure sometimes inconvenient stopovers.
“Before, I had to travel from Basel, sometimes with an additional stopover. It was tiring and made the journey much longer. Now, leaving directly from Strasbourg is a real relief,” said an Alsatian tourist, visibly enthusiastic while boarding.
Others stressed the renewed ease of reaching the “Red City,” particularly to visit relatives or enjoy tourist stays. For them, this route represents a major step forward, making Marrakech more accessible than ever from Strasbourg.
“This direct flight is really going to change the way we travel. We save time but also gain peace of mind, especially when travelling with family,” said a passenger who regularly travels to Marrakech. “We avoid unnecessary connections and the stress that comes with them. It’s real progress for those of us who make this journey often.”
This new route is also part of a broader dynamic of expanding the air network to Morocco, at a time when Marrakech is confirming its attractiveness as a major tourist destination and an international connectivity hub.
The service is one of the new routes announced by EasyJet as part of a wider expansion of its operations in Morocco, a market described as experiencing strong growth.
The airline plans to operate an expanded network there in 2026, with a total of 19 routes from seven French airports.
This development is also supported by the recent opening of an operational base in Marrakech—the first EasyJet base in Africa—intended to support increased capacity and the addition of new routes between Europe and the Kingdom.
