Tangier Med: Attempt to Traffic More Than 3.9 Tons of Cannabis Resin Thwarted
Joint border control operations on an international transport semi-trailer truck registered in Morocco led to the seizure of drug shipments concealed in specially designed compartments inside refrigerated fish models.
National security officers at the Tangier Med port, in coordination with customs services, succeeded on Thursday evening in thwarting an attempt at international drug trafficking and seized a total of 3 tons and 932 kilograms of cannabis resin.
Joint border control operations on an international transport semi-trailer truck registered in Morocco led to the seizure of drug shipments concealed in specially designed compartments inside refrigerated fish models, prepared and packaged to facilitate international drug trafficking, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The truck driver, a Moroccan national, has been placed under judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine all the ramifications and connections of this operation at both the national and international levels, the same source added.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts deployed by security services at border crossings to combat international drug and psychotropic trafficking networks, the DGSN concluded.
