Royal Pardon: Senegalese President expresses his thanks to His Majesty the King
Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed, on Saturday, his “most sincere thanks” to His Majesty King Mohammed VI following the pardon that the Sovereign kindly granted to Senegalese supporters who had been convicted for offences committed during the Africa Cup of Nations competitions, organised by the Kingdom of Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
“Our compatriots who were being held in Morocco following the incidents that occurred on the sidelines of the Africa Cup of Nations are free. They will soon be reunited with their loved ones, thanks to the Royal Pardon that His Majesty King Mohammed VI kindly granted them on the occasion of Eid al‑Adha,” wrote the President of the Republic of Senegal in a tweet published on the social network X.
“I extend to His Majesty my most sincere thanks for this decision, imbued with clemency and humanity,” the Senegalese president emphasised, adding that “Senegal and Morocco share a long-standing brotherhood, which this gesture once again honours.”
“Eid Mubarak to His Majesty the King and to all the Moroccan people,” the tweet concludes.
