Impact of the conflict in the Middle East: Akhannouch chairs a meeting of the ministerial commission in charge of monitoring

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch chaired, on Tuesday, April 28 in Rabat, a meeting of the ministerial commission responsible for monitoring the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on the national economy. The meeting provided an opportunity to confirm the availability of energy stocks and to emphasize the normal supply of the domestic market with agricultural products and basic goods.

“At the beginning of this meeting, the various concerned departments presented briefings on the extent of the impact of the international context on different sectors, while also reviewing the Kingdom’s foreign exchange reserves, which cover a period of about six months,” said a statement from the Head of Government’s office.

According to the same source, it was decided during the meeting to continue the direct and exceptional support provided to professionals in the freight and passenger transport sector, in order to ensure a steady and regular supply to markets and to maintain public transport services at the same fares, without any increase for citizens.

It was also decided to continue subsidizing butane gas and electricity for household consumption in order to keep current prices unchanged.

“It was further decided to strengthen the monitoring and control of agricultural product distribution channels in the domestic market, to ensure that these products reach citizens at reasonable prices,” the statement from the Head of Government’s office concludes.
