Health: Tehraoui launches the services of two facilities in Tarfaya and Laâyoune
This concerns the Provincial Hospital of Tarfaya and the first-level urban health center “Attaawoun” in Laâyoune. The minister also visited the first-level rural health center “Tah.”
Amine Tehraoui launched, this Thursday, November 6, the services of the Provincial Hospital of Tarfaya and the first-level urban health center “Attaawoun” in Laâyoune, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Glorious Green March. Accompanied by the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Mr. Abdeslam Bekrat, the Governor of Tarfaya province, Mr. Mohamed Hamim, and several elected officials, the Minister also conducted a field visit to the recently rehabilitated and equipped first-level rural health center “Tah” in Tarfaya province as part of the program to upgrade primary healthcare facilities.
These achievements are part of the ongoing momentum in the southern provinces of the Kingdom to strengthen healthcare offerings, promote territorial equity in access to health services, and consolidate their role as centers for human, health, and economic development.
Built on an area of 8 hectares, including 7,300 m² covered, the Provincial Hospital of Tarfaya required an investment of 60 million dirhams. With a capacity of 70 beds, it will ease the pressure on other health structures in the region and reduce citizen travel to other provinces for necessary care. The facility has a qualified team of 102 health professionals, including 13 doctors, 60 nurses and medical assistants, and 29 administrative and technical staff, serving an estimated population of more than 16,400 residents.
At the same time, the first-level urban health center “Attaawoun” in Laâyoune was inaugurated to serve nearly 20,400 inhabitants. It offers a comprehensive range of services including emergency care, deliveries, general medical consultations, nursing care, and follow-up for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory conditions. The center also monitors maternal and child health, school health, health awareness and education, in addition to epidemiological surveillance and mobile health services.
The center is equipped with modern, efficient medical equipment and an integrated information system based on electronic medical records, ensuring quality care and continuity at regional and national levels. The Ministry has also mobilized the necessary human resources to provide medical and nursing services to the target population.
The recently opened first-level rural health center “Tah” serves 894 inhabitants and now benefits from four nursing managers, modern biomedical equipment, and an advanced information system based on electronic medical records. These improvements enhance the quality of health services and bring medical care closer to citizens.
The project required a budget of 2.6 million dirhams aimed at improving health infrastructure, enhancing the quality of services offered to citizens, and supporting the implementation of the Royal initiative for universal health coverage and social protection.
