Defense: Inauguration of the TATA Factory in Berrechid
TATA Advanced Systems Morocco factory launches production of WhAP 8×8 armored combat vehicles, intended for the Royal Armed Forces as well as high-potential international markets.
In execution of the Very High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the National Defense Administration, the Indian Ministry of Defense, and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announce the inauguration, on Tuesday in Berrechid, of the Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM) factory.
This factory, the subject of the investment agreement signed between the parties in September 2024, is the result of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Morocco’s industrial capacity in the defense sector, states a press release from the National Defense Administration.
Located in the Berrechid industrial zone, the TASM factory today launches the production of WhAP 8×8 armored combat vehicles, intended for the Royal Armed Forces as well as high-potential international markets.
This structuring project, initiated under the Impulsion of the High Royal Directives, aims not only to gradually provide the country with industrial and technological autonomy in defense matters, but also to serve as a catalyst for the development of an innovative industrial ecosystem and the creation of skilled jobs.
At its opening, the TASM factory plans to integrate 35% local components, a rate that will gradually reach 50% through sustained investment in training and the integration of national suppliers.
The Berrechid factory is expected to support regional economic growth, with the creation of 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs, as well as a ramp-up plan that foresees a significant increase in production in the medium term.
It also offers Moroccan talents opportunities for training, professional development, and the building of technological expertise related to the production and maintenance of advanced defense vehicles.
Equipped with modern infrastructure, the TASM factory will serve as a regional platform for the export of WhAP 8×8 vehicles, particularly to Africa.
This partnership fully aligns with the Royal Vision for the emergence of a national defense industry, capable of meeting the challenges of sovereignty, autonomy, and security within the framework of enhanced South-South cooperation.
