Decarbonisation of Industrial Zones: A Pilot Initiative Launched in Casablanca
The “Izdihar Green Shift” programme is based on an integrated approach aimed at supporting industrial companies in their transition, through awareness-raising activities, training, technical assistance, and the development of collective decarbonisation projects.
The Association of Industrial Zones of the Sidi Bernoussi District Prefecture (Izdihar) launched on Wednesday in Casablanca its “Izdihar Green Shift” (IGS) programme, a pilot initiative designed to accelerate the decarbonisation of industrial zones in Morocco while strengthening business competitiveness.
Designed and developed in partnership with Green Wave, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the programme is aligned with the Kingdom’s climate commitments, particularly under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the low-carbon strategy to 2050.
In a video address, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Riyad Mezzour, emphasised that the programme forms part of the national momentum for industrial and energy transition, aimed at boosting business competitiveness through skills development in energy management and optimisation of industrial performance.
He also highlighted the central role of energy efficiency and energy management in reducing costs and improving corporate performance, while calling for faster integration of decarbonisation approaches within the industrial fabric.
The Minister further underlined the importance of innovation and cooperation between public and private stakeholders in transforming environmental challenges into growth opportunities.
For his part, Adil Farssi, President of the Izdihar Association, stated that the IGS programme is based on an integrated approach to supporting industrial firms in their transition, through awareness-raising, training, technical assistance, and the development of collective decarbonisation projects.
“Today’s challenge is to transform industrial zones into genuine platforms for the energy transition, with operational solutions tailored to the realities of businesses,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), Mohamed Benyahia, noted that the Agency’s participation in this programme falls within the implementation of regional energy efficiency and decarbonisation plans. He specified that AMEE supports industrial companies through awareness, training, and technical assistance initiatives, particularly in the substitution of fossil fuels with renewable energy and the optimisation of industrial processes.
For his part, the Director General of the Moroccan Institute for Standardisation (IMANOR), Abdelrahim Taibi, stated that the Institute provides industrial companies with national and international standards related to the environment, energy, and decarbonisation. He added that IMANOR supports companies with compliance, certification, and the verification of their carbon footprints—considered a key tool for the credibility of their environmental commitments.
At the conclusion of the meeting, three partnership agreements were signed between the Izdihar Association and its partners—AMEE, IMANOR, and Green Wave. These agreements aim to structure the implementation of the “Izdihar Green Shift” programme and to strengthen cooperation between institutional and industrial stakeholders around the challenges of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and industrial competitiveness.
