Bourita: His Majesty the King Considers that the Security of the Gulf is Inseparable From that of Morocco

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, affirmed on Sunday that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has always considered that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf countries are inseparable from the security of Morocco: “What harms you affects us as well, and what affects us also affects you.”

This position was expressed in Bourita’s speech during the proceedings of the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, dedicated to examining Iran’s aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states.

During this meeting, in which he took part via videoconference, the minister stressed the Kingdom of Morocco’s constant position in support of brotherly Arab countries, as expressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI through the telephone calls the Sovereign held with his brothers, Their Majesties and Highnesses in the Gulf countries.

This approach, Bourita noted, clearly and firmly reflects the Kingdom’s support for the security of these states, their sovereignty and the integrity of their territories, considering that their security and stability are inseparable from the security and stability of Morocco.

In this context, he recalled the speech delivered by His Majesty the King during the Morocco–Gulf Countries Summit held on April 20, 2016, in which the Sovereign stated: “Indeed, the defense of our security is not only a shared duty, it is one and indivisible. In fact, Morocco has always considered that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf countries are inseparable from the security of Morocco. What harms you affects us as well, and what affects us also affects you.”

Bourita also expressed the Kingdom’s firm condemnation of the brutal Iranian aggressions targeting brotherly Arab countries, describing them as a blatant violation of the sovereignty of these states and a direct threat to the security of the entire region, reaffirming Morocco’s total solidarity with these countries and its full support for all legitimate measures they deem appropriate to preserve their security as well as the safety of their citizens and residents on their territory.

In this regard, he explained that these abhorrent aggressions are only one manifestation of the hostile policies that the Iranian regime continues to adopt toward neighboring countries and the region in general, in an attempt to fuel discord and destabilize the region, particularly through the creation of entities and terrorist militias that pledge allegiance to it at the expense of the interests, security and stability of their own countries.

Moreover, the minister stressed that strengthening Arab cohesion and consolidating joint action within the framework of the League of Arab States remain the best way to preserve the collective security of Arab countries, protect their sovereignty and the interests of their peoples, and address all challenges targeting the stability and security of the region, far from the logic of division, fragmentation, and dispersion.

He also called for the adoption of a unified and firm Arab position to confront any practices likely to threaten the stability of the Arab region, insisting on the need to immediately put an end to the heinous Iranian aggressions in order to allow diplomatic efforts to unfold, prioritize the path of dialogue, and contribute to easing tensions as well as de-escalation in the region.
