Playoffs Africa for the 2026 World Cup: Kickoff of the mini-tournament this Thursday in Rabat
The winner of this tournament, which includes four teams, will qualify for the FIFA intercontinental playoffs in March 2026 and can secure the 10th and final spot allocated to Africa for the major global football event.
The start happens this Thursday in Morocco for the Africa zone playoffs as part of the qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The mini-tournament involves the four best teams that finished second after the qualification phase: Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Gabon, and Nigeria.
The two matchups will take place at El Barid Stadium and the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, as announced by the African Football Confederation (CAF) at the end of last October, specifying that a draw will decide the stadium for each match.
The opening game will feature Nigeria against Gabon at 5:00 PM local time (4:00 PM GMT), while the second match will be Cameroon versus the DRC at 8:00 PM (7:00 PM GMT). The final will be played on November 16 at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Complex at 8:00 PM local time.
The winner of this tournament will advance to the FIFA intercontinental playoffs in March 2026 and could earn the 10th and last ticket allocated to Africa for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place jointly in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, from June 11 to July 19.
