Morocco Organizes the First International Mediterranean “Atlas” Symposium in Athens
This event, under the theme “The Mediterranean Sea: A Space of Cultural Interconnection and Unifying Visions Between Its Two Shores,” will take place from December 1st to 3rd in Athens.
The first edition of the International Mediterranean “Atlas” Symposium will take place from December 1st to 3rd in Athens, at the initiative of the Embassy of Morocco in the Hellenic Republic and the Municipality of Heraklion.
In a statement, the Embassy of the Kingdom indicates that this event, under the theme “The Mediterranean Sea: A Space of Cultural Interconnection and Unifying Visions Between Its Two Shores,” will be marked by the participation of several diplomats from French-speaking countries in Greece and numerous Mediterranean nations.
This forum, which will be held in the multipurpose room of the Municipality of Heraklion in Athens, the cradle of philosophy and civilization, aims to rediscover the shared Mediterranean heritage and promote cultural dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
It also aspires to highlight the historical role of the Mediterranean as a space of interaction and mutual cultural enrichment among its peoples.
The scientific program of the symposium is structured around two main seminars: the first will address the Mediterranean as a historical space of cultural exchange, while the second will explore ways to build a common vision between Arab and Western countries in the Mediterranean region, addressing issues of identity, culture, migration, climate change, media, and regional cooperation.
Intellectuals, researchers, and experts specializing in Mediterranean affairs, from various bordering countries, will participate in this event. They will lead workshops and intellectual sessions aimed at developing a shared vision for future Mediterranean rapprochement, the statement continues.
In addition to academic sessions, a visual arts exhibition featuring the works of internationally renowned artist Qarmad, as well as those of other Mediterranean artists, is part of the forum’s program. This exhibition will highlight Arab and European creativity and emphasize the role of art in promoting intercultural dialogue.
The forum will conclude with a series of recommendations aimed at strengthening cultural and scientific cooperation among Mediterranean countries, as well as the preparation of a comprehensive report to be submitted to regional and international bodies.
It will also be proposed to launch an annual or biennial Mediterranean cultural dialogue forum, to be held alternately in different Mediterranean capitals, concludes the statement.
