Maritime Fishing: New Zoning for Trawlers and Longliners
As from the 2026 fishing season, each coastal trawler is required to operate in a single management unit, with the obligation to land its catches in the ports belonging to the chosen unit, which will be stated on the vessel’s fishing licence.
Starting with the 2026 fishing season, a new zoning system will come into force for coastal trawlers and longliners.
Each trawler will be required to operate in a single zone and land its catches there, in the ports indicated on its licence.
Moroccan waters are now divided into five units for trawlers, with clearly defined geographical boundaries and ports.
For longliners, the three fishing zones have been readjusted, as have the landing ports, in order to better align activity with the reception capacity of the infrastructure.
Adopted following consultations with industry professionals, these decisions aim to ensure a more coherent organization, and guarantee the sustainable exploitation of marine resources, and strengthen the sector’s economic viability.
Other complementary measures will be introduced gradually.
