Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a mineral partnership with the U.S., emphasizing the importance of securing guarantees from allies as part of any deal. Focusing on rare earths and critical minerals, Zelenskyy seeks U.S. investment to bolster Ukraine’s economy amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia, noting that less than 20% of Ukraine’s mineral resources are under Russian occupation. He expressed a desire to utilize Ukraine’s gas storage for U.S. LNG supplies and aims to engage with former President Trump, stressing the need for dialogue before Trump meets Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine’s resources should be developed in a mutually beneficial partnership while ensuring security for Ukraine. As the situation in eastern Ukraine remains critical with advancing Russian forces, he is also looking to strengthen military recruitment efforts to address manpower shortages. The interview aligns with the upcoming Munich Security Conference, where further discussions about Ukraine’s security and resources are anticipated.
