Tech firms are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to address the challenges posed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Salesforce introduced an AI tariff agent capable of processing changes affecting approximately 20,000 product categories within the U.S. customs system, using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, a comprehensive 4,400-page document. Executives like Eric Loeb from Salesforce highlight the difficulty businesses face in keeping up with the rapid changes in tariffs. Manufacturers and distributors are utilizing machine learning technology from Kinaxis to assess the impact of tariffs on materials and explore alternative options. With the U.S. importing about $3.3 trillion worth of goods in 2024, the unpredictability stemming from tariff measures has prompted major retailers, including Walmart and Nike, to adjust their pricing strategies. Futurist Zack Kass noted the importance of AI during uncertain times, emphasizing its role as a proactive solution for managing supply chain challenges rather than merely reacting. Wipro’s Nagendra Bandaru stated that organizations are employing AI solutions to adapt their supply chain strategies dynamically in response to changing policies. While AI presents significant advantages, experts like Ajay Agarwal from Bain Capital Ventures caution that its effectiveness relies heavily on the quality of available data. The demand for AI investment is high, with nearly 75% of business leaders identifying it as a key focus for 2025, reflecting its growing importance in navigating global trade complexities.
