“The neighborhood relations that Morocco maintains with the Sahel countries constitute for us a very important source of knowledge, understanding, and also identification of joint work avenues for the benefit of the peoples of the Sahel,” emphasized Mr. Cravinho.

The diplomat noted, in this regard, that the Sahel region is “fragile from security and socio-economic points of view, which are two linked issues, representing a major challenge,” adding that the EU and Morocco have a major role to play in the region.

He also noted that the objective of his visit is to explore ways to deepen the dimension of the relationship between the European Union and Morocco concerning the Sahel region, in order to achieve common objectives of peace and security serving the populations of this region.
