Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó underscored his country’s alignment with the United States and France in their renewed backing of Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara.

Szijjártó made these remarks during a press conference in Budapest following discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

In the same statement, the Hungarian minister announced he had directed Hungary’s Ambassador to Morocco to visit the Sahara region, mirroring steps taken by diplomats from other major nations accredited to the Kingdom.

He also confirmed that consular services at Hungary’s embassy in Morocco will now be available to all Moroccan citizens throughout the entire territory of the Kingdom.

This decision reinforces Hungary’s unequivocal support for the autonomy plan and strengthens the growing international consensus around the initiative. It aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2756 (2024), which calls on parties to build on progress toward a mutually agreed political resolution.
